GCABC YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

Believing firmly that “the best investment one can make is in education, particularly in youth education”, the Ghanaian-Canadian Association of British Columbia proudly announces its Third AnnualYyouth Scholarship Competition. Started I 2009, the GCABC-YSC is open to Ghanaian-Canadian post-secondary students in B.C. and Ghanaian secondary school students in Ghana. A total of nine students (6 in B.C. and 3 in Ghana) have benefitted so far from the GCABC Youth Scholarship Awards which range from $500 to $1,000 per student.

Committed to stirring the hunger for education in our youth, the GCABC encourages all our post-secondary students in B.C. to apply and compete for the award. The current winners are Ms Lois Addo, a second-year student at UBC, and Miss Honesty Afi Ahieku of Anlo Secondary School in Ghana.

ELIGIBILITY

• Age: 17 – 30
• Ghanaian descent (i.e. at least one parent must be of Ghanaian heritage)
• Undergraduate in any field of study in an approved higher education institution (community college, polytechnic, university, etc in Canada)

CRITERIA

1) A minimum of 6 months voluntary community service, prior to the application/receipt of the award

2) Three reference letters and all required essays to be sent electronically to Dr. Kwawu Agbemenu (agbemenu@shaw.ca)

3) Enrollment Letter or Letter of Admission from an approved higher education institution

4) A 150-word essay explaining financial need or reason for competing

5) A 300-word essay on the topic As a Youth and Student, the Role I Can Play to Make the GCABC a Better Community Organization
