Welcome to our website.
The GCABC is the association of the Ghanaians living in beautiful British
Columbia; founded to support the social and economic well-being of all Ghanaians,
friends of Ghana and others who identify with Ghana... Get
to know Ghanaians in BC!
Message from the president:
My fellow executives and I hope we can continue to count on your active
participation in all activities of our association. Please, let us remember
that the GCABC is our collective venture and that we sink or sail together.
What the association becomes will be a reflection of our collective hard
work and dedication so I urge all of us to encourage every Ghanaian to come
on board so we can all join hands in moving the association forward.
Even more importantly, we must move beyond "the partying and merry-making
syndrome" and begin to build a solid foundation of economic sustainability
that will allow us to provide support services for our members, especially
our youth and our seniors. This is not to say we must not party. Partying
we must, but we must ensure that our merry-making is also built around fundraising
or some tangible projects, whenever possible.
My fellow executives and I have outlined a number of new initiatives
aimed at making the GCABC more dynamic and forward-looking. Prominent among
them is a youth scholarship fund. The best investment, I submit, is in education.
We must therefore do all we can to invest in our children’s education. We
will soon be calling on you our members and friends of Ghana to contribute
generously to the fund.
Our next task is to apply for federal tax status so we can issue receipts
for donations. A federal tax number will boost our fund-raising efforts
in no small measure, as our donors will be encouraged to contribute more
knowing they will receive tax receipts from us. To this end, a constitution
review committee has been set up to review and update our constitution in
order to meet the requirements.
Our cardinal aim is to make our association increasingly relevant to
all Ghanaian-Canadians and all people of Ghanaian extraction in BC. But
our efforts will come to naught if we can’t count on the support of you,
our members. I take this opportunity therefore to appeal to all members
to pay their dues and participate actively and fully in our fund-raising
activities. Together, we can do it! Together, the sky is the limit.
Thank you kindly,
Dr. Charles Quist-Adade,
President, GCABC
